Bio of Liverpool poet, Justine Tennant
Born 1970, Liverpool. I started writing poetry in
2003 to see if I was any good at it because, so far, I haven't found anything
else I
am good at!
I have a terrible 'butterfly mind' and can get really
passionate about people or things that spark my imagination. Sometimes I
can go a bit overboard with enthusiasm but then just as quickly, lose all interest. I therefore
blame this trait for never having picked up any skills that have made me my
fortune, because I have never had the patience to stick at anything for very
long!
Some favourite poets of mine include Dorothy Parker, Brian Patten and e e cummings, but I like to read a wide variety of poetry (and prose) and the internet is perfect for that. I can spend hours getting lost on the net.
There is one particular poem that I think encapsulates who I think I am. I'm just annoyed that Dorothy Parker wrote it and not me because it's bloody brilliant!
Faute De Mieux
Travel, trouble, music, art,
A kiss, a frock, a rhyme-
I never said they feed my heart,
But still they pass my time.
